Blasting, Coating, & Fireproofing
Our Coating division offers a variety of services focused on improving the performance, durability, resistance to corrosive elements, and overall lifespan of capital assets found in industrial and commercial settings. From abrasive blasting and other surface preparation to application of specialty coatings and fireproofing materials, our teams are armed with the equipment and experience to handle jobs of any scope.
Abrasive Blasting
Abrasive blasting is a crucial step in the surface preparation process for many painting and coating types. While blasting can be done through a variety of media, the result is a surface that is considered “clean” – free of harmful contaminants (paint, rust, grease) and textured for adhesion. Materials that have undergone this transformation are then ready for coating, painting, or welding.
IEI’s services are available in-house or onsite, and our teams mobilize quickly with the most up-to-date training, equipment, and PPE.

Specialty Coating
Our facility contains a state-of-the-art paint shop, which supports our large projects and allows us to maintain the quality of in-process coatings, preventing reworks and project delays. For services required onsite, our self-perform teams mobilize quickly with company-owned equipment, helping clients maintain project budgets without compromising quality.
We currently specialize in seven coating application types: epoxy, polyurethane, zinc-rich, ceramic, alkyd, acrylic, and intumescent (fireproofing). In accordance with IEI’s commitment to Quality and Building with Integrity, all coatings are inspected by an in-house NACE-certified inspector prior to release.
Fireproofing
Fireproofing is a pivotal step in the construction process, where structural steel components are coated in preparation for consistent exposure to extreme temperatures. When applied correctly, fireproofing not only extends your building’s lifespan, but allows it to maintain structural integrity when temperatures reach a level that causes steel to lose strength, threatening collapse or failure.
At IEI, we specialize in the application of intumescent fireproofing coating and removal of pre-existing cementitious fireproofing. Our use of IFRM is strategic, as the spray application allows our teams to work more quickly, resists trapping moisture that leads to corrosion and product failure, and remains aesthetically pleasing, mitigating the need for additional paint.
